About Me

female teacher music practitioner

I am an experienced Primary School teacher who specialises in Early Years. I have taught in schools across Rotherham and Sheffield and worked as an Early Years Leader for 6 years. Whilst working in Primary Schools and Nurseries, I have noticed that sharing stories and making music is not always given the time and energy it deserves. I love connecting with children through music and sharing high-quality stories to promote a love of reading. I believe this builds children's imaginations, helps them make sense of the world and develops creativity. It also develops their language and listening skills and ability to focus, all of which contribute to school readiness. I decided to set up Little Sound Garden as I know how crucial the Early Years are for children's development and I want to bring more music into EYFS settings and support parents in the community.

Making music

I started playing the violin when I was 7 and went on to learn the piano and viola as well. I joined all the ensembles I could and went on to achieve Grade 8 in each of my instruments by the time I left school. I also played percussion so that I could play in a wider range of ensembles. I studied Languages at University but continued to play and perform while I was there. After moving to Sheffield I joined the Sheffield Philharmonic Orchestra and have been lucky enough to lead a few times. I am passionate about giving children access to high quality musical opportunities including hearing live music and developing their own sense of musical expression. I love making up songs and musical games with children, including my own two daughters who both love to sing, dance and perform.
